New Year's Resolutions for Pest Control
Gyms are crowded at the beginning of each year with ambitions and goals of losing weight and finally getting in shape. While making out your list this year, try adding something new to the top. Maybe there are things around the house that need as much attention as your gym resolutions.
If you are continuously battling pests in your home, then you may consider adding some pest control New Year's resolutions to your list this year. A pest-free home is worth making it to the top of the resolutions list, and you’ll be thanking yourself for years to come that you invested the time and energy into freeing yourself from pests!
Here are Five New Years' Resolutions to Keep Your Home Free of Unwanted Pests This Upcoming Year.
1) Declutter and stay decluttered.
This is a really big goal, and that’s why it is number one on our list. It can be really difficult to achieve the goal of keeping your home decluttered for the simple fact that it always seems like we are constantly bringing items into our homes. Groceries, kid’s school projects, materials for home improvements, you name it. If you think about it, we bring more items into the home daily than we get rid of.
Reducing clutter is one of the most important and effective steps to reduce and prevent unwanted pest infestations. The unnecessary clutter in our homes can provide a perfect hiding place for common pests like cockroaches, mice, and bed bugs. They love to build their nests in the crooks and crannies of clutter.
The start of the New Year is the perfect time to do a major declutter around your home. Once you put your Christmas gifts away, you will probably notice that shelves are getting packed, closets and getting harder to shut, and cabinets are overflowing. What better way to start off the new year than to get a fresh start in the house with a good old-fashioned declutter session?
2) Keep your kitchen clean.
Kitchens are one of the most frequented areas of your home by pests, and the reason is simple: they want to go where the food is. They are attracted to food and water in this area and can commonly be found in cabinets and drawers. None of us especially appreciate them being there.
If you want to prevent these pests from invading your kitchen, the best habit is to make sure you are cleaning up crumbs and wiping away food residue after each meal. Try not to leave fruits and vegetables out on your countertops, and store your leftovers in sealed containers in your refrigerator.
3) Take the trash out nightly.
The kitchen trash can get pretty gnarly. When food scraps mix with your household trash, things can get stinky quickly. It is an unpleasant combination for us, but pests love finding their way into the stinky mess of a kitchen trash can.
The easiest way to prevent this problem entirely is to get into the habit of taking out your kitchen trash each night after you finish dinner. It’s a win-win situation. Your home gets to stay smelling fresh and clean while you’re also preventing a pest infestation.
4) Store your firewood outdoors.
Sure, it can be extremely convenient to have a fresh pile of firewood sitting right next to your fireplace, but it can also harbor several unwanted creatures. Bugs such as spiders, beetles, sowbugs, pillbugs, wood roaches, ants, wasps, and flies may be hiding in your firewood.
If you frequently enjoy a warm fire in your home during the winter but hate being pestered by pests, take a step to prevent them by keeping your wood stored in a dry space outdoors.
5) Hire a professional pest control specialist.
If you have tried all you can think of and you’re still being pestered by pests, you may want to consider hiring a professional exterminator. We would be more than happy to come to assess your pest situation and create a plan to solve your bug problems.
